Introduction
And hello everybody. Welcome to this TLDL episode of the Corvus Effect. I'm Scott and TLDL stands for too long. Didn't listen. Sometimes life gets in the way. I understand. So this is the quick five-ish minute summary of my conversation with Dan Za. Dan, a wonderful human being. In terms of how he's combined his professional expertise with his personal passion to create meaningful impact and a lasting legacy.
Something that I think all of us who listen to the podcast can get behind in terms of that's truly our desire. So.
Redefining Success Through Genuine Connection
Couple of thoughts that came from my conversation with Dan that I really wanna emphasize in this summary. One of them is to be able to redefine success. Through genuine connection, we kind of talk tongue in cheek in terms of the way people look at the quote unquote used car salesman, right?
And that Dan, over the course of time developed a relationship focused approach to sales based on understanding what his clients wanted and really catering his conversations to them. Versus high pressure tactics and understanding how people need to be brought in from more distance parts of the bullseyes.
He talked about it to get to why the company and why you are the person to work with. So our takeaway as folks who are trying to. Lead towards our legacy. When we're trying to think about how to position what we want to others, we need to prioritize understanding before selling, and we need to focus on how can we truly help others through what we're passionate about and then be able to communicate that effectively.
Thought that was a phenomenal takeaway. Another thing that we talked about is.
Transforming Personal Challenges into Purpose
How he's transformed personal challenges into purpose. Talk vividly in terms of his experience as a father to a neuro diverse son and how that translated into a lot of his advocacy work with Culture City, Incredible organization, helping people with invisible diseases and create those inclusive environments. And one of the things that Dan really keyed in on, and for us as folks trying to lead to our legacy, is looking to our personal challenges and experiences as potential sources. Of your most meaningful work.
Hey, for the longest time, I wanted to take the things that were wrong in my life and go ahead and bury them under the rug and put my head in the sand like an ostrich, right? It wasn't until I, I. Really embrace that. No, that's a part of your life. That's a part of your story. That is part of the authenticity and the vulnerability that you have to share in order to be the change and the impact that you want in the world.
that certainly is in line with what Dan would tell us. That certainly in line with what. We want in terms of the striving towards our legacy. So make sure that we're embracing the personal challenges in our life as a source of wisdom and a source of information towards where we should be going.
Leaving Things Better Than You Found Them
The final thing that Dan and I talked about was this concept of leaving things better than you found them, and that's ultimately what Dan said his measure of success was. Did you leave it better than when you got there because. Legacy isn't about the achievements or the bullet points on the resume, but it's more in terms of how you made others feel to allude to the great, uh, Maya angel quote.
And that is really the greatest gift in terms of positively impacting. Somebody else's life. So yes, legacy does start with ourselves in terms of enhancing ourselves first in order to build the foundation to everything that we want. But ultimately we need to take a look at it as Dan put it and said, what are you doing to make the room better?
What are you doing to make someone else feel better? That's when people will speak of us in terms of saying. We were an inspiration to them. We channeled our resources into the things that we cared about. We uplifted others to help bring the elevator back down for the next generation. Very powerful conversation.
Conclusion
