Guest Intro: Jamie Ellithorpe, Founder of 540 Strategies
Hey everyone, it's Scott. Welcome to this TLDL episode of The Corvus Effect. From my conversation with Jamie Ellithorpe, founder of 540 Strategies and someone who's walked the path from corporate executive to solopreneur to integrated business leader, Jamie now helps heart-centered entrepreneurs attract dream clients through what she calls magnetic messaging and joy-led strategy.
What makes her approach so revolutionary is that she's learned the hard way that business success without personal alignment isn't true success. That's something that we preach here in Corvus all the time. Among the dimensions in terms of what does it mean to truly be free, life integration with what you do is critically important. So let's see some of the key takeaways. If you like this, please go back and listen to the full episode. It was awesome. But first, Jamie's profound realization about what she called the Pollyanna Trap that many entrepreneurs fall into when escaping corporate America.
The Pollyanna Trap
She left a poor environment in healthcare. She felt like she was taking the sheep to slaughter, in her words. She initially believed that once she left corporate America, all her dreams were going to come true, and there were no problems or bad days. But that is not reality. If you want a good read on this subject, please read "The Entrepreneurial Rollercoaster." It is a fantastic read that as an entrepreneur, you're going to have your good days, you're going to have your bad days, you're going to have your downright crappy days, right?
She remembers coming to her V8 moment with her PR expert and friend Patrice who asked her a devastating question. "Jamie, when you were talking about 540 Strategies and joy and living in your purpose, you need to talk about this all the time and apply it in the way that you approach this business." That's when she realized she essentially recreated another job that was no longer bringing her joy.
This illustrates a key principle that we have here in Corvus - you can escape one prison to create another prison, and that isn't true freedom. You have to have alignment with your core purpose when you do it. So keep that in mind.
The Triple M System
Secondly, she had a game-changing insight that most business owners need far more than marketing strategy. They need mindset. They need manifesting to go along with marketing, what she calls the Triple M system.
She explains that their mindset determines their success or failure just as much as the systems and strategies. Because if your mindset is full of doubt, worry, fear, you're going to self-sabotage those strategies and "I don't care how great they are," her words. That's perfect for many of us who are seeking the definition of freedom that we want. Perhaps we know the path, perhaps we know the playbook, we know what we are supposed to do.
But if you can't get started with that first step because you are paralyzed by fear, by doubt, that anxiety, etc., you're not going to get to where you want to get to. So you need to have the mindset and the intentional manifestation, not just the Pollyanna "I will think it and then it will come" - no, what are those steps that you are going to take to get there.
LinkedIn Strategy
Finally, her revolutionary approach to LinkedIn and relationships goes far beyond traditional marketing funnels. She discovered LinkedIn is not a place to throw out an offer and hope that people come out of the other side in a funnel. That's not really what LinkedIn is designed for. It is designed to develop relationships with people who can then help you get a bunch of clients if you take time to nurture the relationships. That's where the 10x ROI can be.
I see it all the time in terms of people who contact me on LinkedIn, people who post on LinkedIn and they are promoting their offers or why this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Focus group of one, it comes across as very inauthentic. Nobody likes to be sold to, but people love to buy.
So how do you position yourself in an environment such as LinkedIn to be someone that people want to buy from? That is the ultimate approach to social media and that's where Jamie with her concept of "I'm the only one" and positioning herself so you have no other choice but to buy from her. She takes that as the ultimate compliment.
