Introduction
And hello everybody. Welcome back to the Corvus Effect. I'm Scott, and this is the TLDL. From my chat with Justin Bomo, founder of Journey to Financial Freedom. For those of you who don't know, TLDL is short for. Too long didn't listen, and that's all right. I know that things come up. You may not have had a chance to listen to the full episode.
It's a wonderful conversation. But this is my quick little five-ish minute summary of the message to give you the key points and hopefully invite you to listen to 📍 the full message . And really
Transforming Your Relationship with Money
in the conversation with Justin, the core of our discussion was about transforming your relationship with money.
From a source of stress into a powerful tool for living your dream life. And a lot of it comes from Justin's own personal journey after having to witness his parents declare bankruptcy at the age of 10, and then later with his own missteps regarding a $80,000 settlement that he received and what he learned from that.
Is that to transform your financial situation requires both accountability. And responsibility and for my personal life. As I think back to the efforts that I put into my first foray into entrepreneurship, running a couple of martial arts locations, and some of the decisions that I made, I definitely could have improved in terms of my accountability and responsibility related to the finances of that operation.
So this really resonated with me. Because it's so easy for us to unconsciously replicate the muddy patterns that we've seen others make, particularly growing up. And to truly be a financial leader, you have to have the self-awareness to recognize these patterns and the discipline to change them. We talk all the time in terms of self-leadership comes down to.
Self-awareness, self-belief, and self-accountability. So that self-awareness of patterns is very critical.
Financial Wealth vs. Financial Freedom
Another key topic that we talked about is difference between financial wealth. And financial freedom. And a crucial distinction that Justin made was that while wealth simply means having money, true freedom comes when you own assets that automatically generate enough monthly income to cover your expenses and lifestyle.
If you think about it this way, right? If you have. This in place, then you can spend your time, your energy. On whatever you want and not have to worry about the monetary side of it, because from a financial perspective, you are covered and that's incredibly freeing in terms of how you go and pursue your legacy.
So being able to put yourself in that position over time and have that as a mark to say, what I have saved up is enough to cover my lifestyle. Such that I don't have to worry about the income side of it. That's a great goal for all of us to find in terms of achieving the freedom to go pursue our legacy.
Four-Step Transformation Process
And then finally, he talked about the four step transformation process, implementing the right systems. Creating a mission for your money, choosing your financial vehicle, and building sustainable wealth. And he really, really emphasized abundance over scarcity. So we have to. Not fall into the trap of seeing budgeting as a set of restrictive handcuffs.
That's not the point. The point is that budgeting is a vehicle by which it becomes a strategic tool to help us achieve our long term goals. Because at the end of the day, if we are truly committed. To multiplying our leadership impact. We want to do so with as few constraints as possible, and by spending the time now to put financial constraints on us, we can then loosen those financial constraints later in life.
Which allows us to focus even more freely on multiplying our impact and being able to be there for ourselves and our family.
