Introduction

And hello everybody. Welcome back to this episode of The Corpus Effect. I'm Scott, and this is my TL dl. From my enlightening conversation with Peter Shaler, executive director of Rayo de Soul and Community development specialist who's dedicated his life to breaking cycles of poverty in Nicaragua. TLDL stands for too long, didn't listen.

I encourage you after this five-ish minute summary to go back and listen to the episode in full 'cause Peter's just a incredible gentleman and I really loved how his core message  talked about how authentic leadership and sustainable development. Can create lasting change in communities that are facing severe challenges.

So let's dive into some of the key points.

Key Points from Peter β€ŠSchaller's Journey

First off, Peter's personal journey demonstrated how following our authentic calling can lead to profound impact. When he was designing his own major in international development and then found himself.  First arriving in Nicaragua. Somewhat strange, but describing a sensation of coming home, even though he had never visited there in his life.

And really what struck out at me in terms of this conversation was he was a self-described, lifelong northeastern US person. This was the farthest thing that you could think of in terms of what would feel familial to him. But it all just clicked and he embraced that, and he embraced the authentic feeling of what he wanted to do there, and that's led a lot of the impact that he's been able to drive.

Very similar to what we talk about here in Corvus, in terms of authentic leadership creates authentic impact. And so being true to. Where you play best, your strengths and how that can lead to tremendous impact for others. Certainly Peter is a great example of that.

Sustainable Development Approach

We also talked about his approach to sustainable development through Ryo Desole and how it amplifies this.

Starting small, but thinking big. Philosophy. So they started with just one school around 400 students, and now serving 41 communities, focusing on education, nutrition, healthcare, scholarships, economic development. And  very proud. Obviously he is of everything that they are able to do, but he would be the first to tell you that they were not that big when he started.

You had to pick something that was small, achievable, and created the catalyst of, Hey, that was great. Let's do another one. Hey, that was great. Let's do another one. So thinking big. But starting small and picking something, which is gonna be the initial spark to everything that you want to create, is also something that I took away from his efforts.

Leading with Purpose

And then finally, wanna talk about his powerful perspective on leading with purpose and loved how he shared Mothers Re's philosophy. I just love the person in front of me, and I think one of the biggest things in terms of the way that Peter amplifies this is that  Peter, even though he is, I. Northeastern male, right?

That was his upbringing. But 70% of his team are local women in Nicaragua, and they not only demonstrate their passion for caring for the person in front of me. That also comes through in the talents that they bring for the person in front of them. And I loved his story in terms of the thousands of starfish that are on the beach, but we throw back a one because that one got helped.

So being able to apply our talents, our cares, our desires on an individual level. So that over time it manifests and compounds into something much bigger. That's certainly something that I took away from him and he put it best when he said, if you are not living a good life spiritually, emotionally, I.

Physically and intellectually it's difficult to serve other people effectively and the way that he looks at it and loves the other person with all of those different elements to everything that he does, that certainly not only has an impact on who he's helping, but also himself at the same time.

Conclusion
